乔华志，一位幼儿园教师(陈惠山)，和他的母亲和继父过着安稳的生活。"有一天，她收到一位律师的来信，说她的生父蒋耀柱继承了百里香餐厅，但餐厅里没有好厨师，所以她到处找有才华的厨师马友(吴启华)。"但是马友，这个冷酷而自豪的人，由于情绪上的挫折感，再也不能吃到好吃的食物了，不再当厨师了。"原来马友是个孤儿，但幸运的是，他遇到了启蒙老师姚珠。"为了回报他的好意，马友终于奖励了华志为一名餐厅厨师。华志同父异父兄长江上游(林枫)对两人闯入餐厅充满敌意，同时也为他们父亲的餐厅，三人开始合作，与上游和马友也发展了一种师生关系。"花枝和马友相爱了很长一段时间，但是马友的前情人苏梅(邓肯饰)又出现了。"而花枝也知道当年和马友一起学习艺术的天赋(马德钟)，在烹饪中创新天赋的能力和信心。但让新来的困扰的是有才华的厨师马友，他从来没有被人与人相比过。"李鑫又一次把马友看作是他事业和爱情中的对手，于是他给他写了一本战争书。"百里香的生存和爱情的选择让马友感受到了压力。
