呢套《英雄淚》係由楚原執導嘅一部經典愛情動作片，講述咗一個感人嘅愛情故事。
故事發生喺19世紀末嘅上海，李秋萍（汪明荃飾）係一位大家閨秀，喺一次舞會上邂逅咗來自窮困家庭嘅機場地勤黃飛鴻（傅聲飾）。黃飛鴻雖然出身寒微，但佢為人正直善良，而且功夫了得。李秋萍被黃飛鴻嘅魅力所吸引，對佢一見鍾情。
然而，秋萍嘅父親李國棟（曹達華飾）係一位保守嘅傳統人士，佢反對秋萍同黃飛鴻交往。李國棟安排秋萍嫁畀軍閥陳少傑（岳華飾），但秋萍已經心有所屬，堅決唔肯嫁。
黃飛鴻為咗贏得秋萍嘅芳心，決定拜名師學習武功。經過一段時間嘅刻苦訓練，黃飛鴻終於成為咗一代武術高手。但此時，陳少傑決心除掉黃飛鴻，派人追殺佢。
黃飛鴻喺逃亡嘅過程中，偶遇秋萍，兩人喺楓林相遇，重拾舊情。但陳少傑仍然窮追不捨，最後黃飛鴻喺與陳少傑嘅決戰中，為保護秋萍而身受重傷。
秋萍悲痛欲絕，佢放棄咗優渥嘅生活，同黃飛鴻喺楓林共度餘生。而黃飛鴻雖然身負重傷，但佢對秋萍嘅愛仍然不變，佢用盡最後嘅力氣，喺墓碑上刻下佢對秋萍嘅深情，悲壯而感人。
